Born in Kingsport, TN in 1960 and graduating from Dobyns-Bennett in 1978, I completed my undergrad requirements at East Tennessee State University, Northeast State, and a Junior College in Atlanta, GA before entering Life University in Marietta, Georgia. I received a Doctor of Chiropractic degree in the late summer of 1992. I returned to my hometown in September of 1992 to continue a family tradition of Chiropractic.
Merrill Chiropractic opened on 02/06/93 with my wife and mother as my staff of support. We were blessed that first day with 12 new patients, and it took from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm to process each of those patients. Since that beginning I have focused exclusively on the Gonstead technique as the vehicle to restore joint and nerve dysfunction in the spine and extremities. This technique of spinal examination and correction is safe and specific. In addition to a strong practice , Dr. Gonstead also developed a research database to support the science behind the Gonstead difference for spinal restoration. I strive to maintain a strong faith by a relationship with God the Father, through God the Son and led by God the Holy Spirit in order to focus each day to be a conduit of healing from the great physician into the lives of my patients. For me, everyday at Merrill Chiropractic is simply a blessing where God allows me to be a part of a ministry of reconciliation of physical, emotional and spiritual health of each individual that we come in contact with on a daily basis. It is a blessing to be a blessing!
Reflecting on our goals of today and how to expand and improve for the health and wellness of our community for the future, I must look back briefly at the past. I am most grateful for my father, Dr. H.R. Merrill the strongest influence in my chiropractic career. My father began his chiropractic practice in 1940 in downtown Kingsport. He served in World War II, and returned to Kingsport after the war, where he was a dedicated doctor of chiropractic until he retired in January 1997 at 79 years of age. I cherish the memories of my father’s devotion to his Lord and the chiropractic profession.
Merrill chiropractic in the 21st century is focused on educating the public on the benefits of chiropractic to their overall health and wellness. We strive to work with other health care providers outside and inside the walls of our clinic for the sole purpose to relieve pain and suffering without drugs and surgery.
May God continue to bless us with our mission to serve the suffering, until his return.
